Staxel Gamescom 2017 Interview
Staxel is a sandbox farming game that is currently in development. Tend to your farm and work on the village by yourself, or enlist the aid of your friends via online multiplayer to turn it into a thriving farmstead! As the village’s newest resident there’s a lot to look forward to. The village is filled with all sorts of colourful characters to meet and befriend. Sure, they might have some favours to ask of you, but helping them out might bring unexpected rewards! When you’re not hanging out with the villagers or working on the farm, you could be pursuing a new hobby, completing one of many collections, spending your hard earned money in the local stores, or working on improvements to the village.
The game is made by Plukit and published by Humble Bundle.
We found the opportunity to talk with Bart van der Werf about Staxel, a multiplayer farming game set in a voxel based sandbox world. The game is inspired in parts by Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley and Minecraft, but as we have been told, the developers focused on creating a world full with small activities and no enemies, so the player can have a relaxing experience.
The players will get to experience village life, will get to meet other villagers that might have some tasks that give rewards. In this voxel based world everything can be customized and as Bart told us, they saw how in Minecraft you could do whatever you want but there wasn’t any real goals and the world lacked direction. They wanted to create something that is focused on a single player experience, a full world with activities to do.
The game began with only two people for the first year and now there are a ten people working in the game. Saxel is in development for more than three years and is nearing completion. The Alpha version is already on Humble Bundle and we can expect a Steam release in January.
