Pode Review

There are a lot of co-op puzzle games out there, but only a few manage to give a fun and at the same time challenging experience for more casual players. Pode is an award-winning title that has everything you need in order to embark on a journey of puzzle solving with a friend or your significant other.

Take control of Glo and Bulder as they journey through the most beautiful places, solving puzzles by working together. The game plays around the mechanics of the two characters, one being the heavy one and the other one being the glowy one that activates things around it. It sounds simple but that is what the game is really about, since despite its simplicity, the studio behind the game, Henchman & Goon, has managed to introduce a whole array of challenging levels for you to take on.

The thing that shines the most for Pode is most definitely its look. The music is soothing and accompanies the finely crafted environments of the game perfectly. Pode delivers not just a challenging puzzle experience, but also a story full of sightseeing since every place has its own surprises and cool bits to explore.

I would certainly be remiss if I were to not compare it to other puzzle platformers though. With games like Shift Happens and Ibb & Obb in the indie field, Pode most certainly has a lot of competition to go up against. Despite the fact that we see numerous co-op puzzlers come out on Steam in the last few years, Pode has managed to find its own place perfectly in the market by delivering a more refined experience than most other indie titles of the same genre.

If anything, compared to the titles I already mentioned, Pode manages to appeal to more casual players, making it a much easier to get into kind of title and therefore having a broader target audience. Thus far, some of the best puzzle platformers, have been games that were actually very challenging or had a lot of harder content to explore. Pode relies mostly on its beauty and simplicity and manages to find its place nicely in the indies market.

This is definitely a title you should be looking to buy if you are into puzzle platformers and most certainly a title that needs to be in your library if you are looking for more interesting co-op experiences.

Pode is available on Steam, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
