Gamescom 2015 – Day 1 – Preparation

> Journal Entry 04 (Gamescom 2015 Series)

The preparation are all done and I’m ready to hop on the train to Cologne to get to experience the magnificent of Gamescom. This year, it’s said that it will be much more full than any before, but that’s pretty much what they say each year and I would guess that most of that is just marketing. I am not writing this article though to let you know if I brought my toothbrush or not. I am writing the article in order¬†to share what my expectations are and what I look forward to seeing/doing the most.

So to get started, the indie megabooth this year won’t be present and its place is taking the Indie Arena Booth, which is pretty much more or less the same.¬†Thanks to the amazing people at IGN Greece, even though a bit late with the press passes, I will have a full press pass as an IGN reporter and that will allow me to get in most places that I wouldn’t be able to as a mere freelancer otherwise. So having made contact with the Indie Arena Booth, one of the things I’m looking forward to doing the most is actually meeting all of the companies that will be presenting new indie games at Gamescom 2015.

Be it old or new titles, I can’t wait to get to interview even for a few minutes some of the creators of some of my favourite games. Games such as Speedrunner and Hue will be there for people to try out and a bunch of new titles will also be represented by the European and U.S. companies that have traveled all the way to Cologne in order to share their creations. Unfortunately, most people already told me that if I want to get to try any of the AAA titles, I will have to wait in a long line of people, but I’m willing to spend some time to get my hands on at least Star Wars: Battlefront and Quantum Break. Because you know, Star Wars and Time Travel.

I also really, really, really want to get my hands on Unravel. Although not a console owner, that game really attracted my attention with its exceptional beauty and gamestyle.

I will of course keep you all updated with a daily report here, every night, after I’ve shared my findings with IGN Greece first. I will try to prepare as much as I can for a daily fix for my readers but it goes without saying that the amount of content that I will have for show will be way too much for me to handle in just one night. There will be pretty pictures and stuff though!

At this point, I have to give a super huge special thanks to my good friend Markus, who despite having some issues at home, he went out of his way to get me a hotel room to have a place to stay while I’m in Cologne. Despite a good Netrunner player, he is one freakin’ amazing person alright and I thank him for his generosity and kindness. May our Netrunner games be endless and without “Snare!”s Markus!

So I got my notepad full of my research on indie companies and their games, I got my pack full of sandwiches and I got my toothbrush. I’m ready for the Gamescom 2015 experience!

So stay tuned to my blog for more info as I travel through the unknown (till now) grounds of the German Gamescom 2015 event!
