Double Kick Heroes Gamescom 2017 Interview
Double Kick Heroes is an explosive METAL rhythm game set in an apocalyptic world. Lead your band on a roadtrip through the wasteland! Blast zombies with your Gundillac and crush them with the power of METAL. Shoot zombies by beating the keyboard or your pad the way you’d beat a drumset. Double Kicking is the name of a drumming technique to speed up the music. But it’s also the name of a deadly weapon you will have to master to survive. Grab your gear and let’s beat it to death!

We had the huge pleasure of talking with artist Gyhyom and musician Elmobo at Gamescom about their explosive metal rhythm game which won the best indie game award, Double Kick Heroes. The developers told us that the idea behind the game came from a Ludum Dare jam where the topic was to create a game with two buttons. Immediately Elmobo thought of the two kickdrums on a drum set and that’s how the game was conceived.
Elmobo told us that he talked with his friends and they all threw ideas around when finally decided to base the game in a metal universe, inspired by games like Full Throttle and Metal Legend. The biggest inspiration might be Tenacious D and in the game there are a lot of references to them.
The developers mentioned that in the beta version there is half the content at the moment and even still, not everything is in. In the final version there will be thirty metal headbanger tracks, all original music by Elmobo. The soundtrack will be released on vinyl and will have many special guests performing with him.
Headbang Club consists of three developers, Gyhyom, Elmobo and Blackmagic, and Tavrox who is in charge of the marketing. They have been developing the game for more than a year and they still have ten to twelve months of development left. At the moment they are looking for a publisher but they are also thinking about Early Access.
