During Gamescom 2016, we found the developers of Gamious who told us about their game Turmoil. Aryeh told us that they have been developing the game for the past 5 years.
Turmoil is a simulation game set in the end of the 19th Century during the oil rush in North America. You start off as an entreprenuer who seeks to grow their reputation and wealth by building oil extracting facilities. Then you can improve your facilities by installing better machines and pipe networks which transport and store your oil. Outsmart your enemies and make shady deals which may land you the opportunity to become mayor of your land.
Gamious was founded by Jos and Pim and later on Roy and Jos joined the company. They started by doing games for mobile platforms but even though now they have changed to developing games for other platforms, they have always been focused on the gameplay of what they create. “We self-publish our games and we have a revenue share rule where all revenue, from start till finish is shared.” Their moto is “we fail together, we win together.” They told us that they are only willing to games that they know they can finish.
The company also has its own little “Dutch Game Garden” up at Haarlem. It is called lvlFOUR and they are housing 6 game companies at the moment with an analyst among them, allowing for a lot of analytics aid for all the devs in there. With 500 square meters and being next to the train station, they are a must visit place for us in the future for sure.
The developers also told us about the Early Access state of the game and how it is affecting it. “It is hard to service the buyers and at the same time stay true to your game’s concept,” said Aryeh. “It was perfect, we wanted them to help us and even though we planned to be in E.A. for 6 months, it has now been a year. We were at least smart to not go too soon into early access and that really helped.” The developers told us that they are planning on keeping up the monthly updates and more.
They also revealed to us a bold new project of theirs, called “Team Racing League” which is going to be something very amazing. We can only reveal as much but we can tell you that it’s going to be a team racing game where only one of the cars in your team needs to finish the race, the rest can just do other “stuff”. We are quite excited to check it out!
