We had the c
hance to find the developers of The Journey Down and they told us that the third chapter is almost finished. Not only that, but we had the luck to see a trailer for the third installment in the trilogy and it looked, awesome. “It is definitely going to be difficult to leave the characters behind after this,” the devs explained.
“I want to make something more retro style, I love cyberpunk and have been writing on this game for eight years now,” explained the main writer behind The Journey Down, Theodor Waern.
We were told that the team is basically comprised of three people and a fourth one that helped make the homebrewed game-engine that gets the adventure game running as well as it does. “The game engine is quite amazing because it also made porting easy later,” they explained.
Theodor continued to explain how he is also the one that did all the casting for the voice actors and also how important the voice acting is for the game, since just one voice being off can make the whole game feel weird. “Voice actors make my writing sound awesome and it helps a lot for introducing flavor in the game,” said Theodor.
Theodor went quite emotional when talking about the fact that the trilogy is ending and he told us that he is “extremely proud and happy to have worked with all the wonderful people I had the chance to work with. It feels like I’m wrapping up a huge chapter in my life,” he said, explaining that people know him for his achievement of making The Journey Down and it has been a huge part of his life.
Last but not least, we asked him the silly question that we have been asking ourselves about the game for quite a long time, which is why the masks in the game have to be this creepy and he replied saying that “maybe we shouldn’t have that face all over our marketing stuff, because a lot of people find it weird.”
