The Banner Saga series is, in my opinion, some of the most immersive games I have ever played. Although Banner Saga 2 was as good as, or even better, than the first game, Stoic Studio’s John Watson recently voiced his unhappiness over how its development was handled. In particular, he said that he wished they had done a Kickstarter, in order to keep the community in the loop and invested. For Banner Saga 3, it appears they have done just that.
Launching on the 24th of January, the Kickstarter has a goal of $200,000. At the time of writing, mere hours after the Kickstarter began, it has already gathered $30,000 of that. The Kickstarter blurb had this to say:
“Banner Saga 3 is the highly anticipated final game of an award winning trilogy,” so reads the Kickstarter blurb. “It’s a role-playing game merged with turn-based strategy, wrapped into an adventure mini-series about Vikings. Many modern games play it safe – you are the chosen one who always saves the day. Our game is different, you can’t take anything for granted in Banner Saga.
“Picture the classic tactical strategy games of your childhood but refined for the modern age. It’s not about grinding to get past the next fight. Every encounter, every decision you make has heavy and sometimes far-reaching consequences. It throws you into the end of the world and asks,’how do you deal with this’? Banner Saga 3 is aimed at people who appreciate art, story and strategy.”
There are many different pledge tiers, with many interesting rewards, such as having your own in-game character. While there are currently no stretch goals, the game is almost sure to hit its goal, so expect them to appear soon.
