Orwell: Ignorance is Strength Gamescom 2017 Interview
Step into the shoes of a government official in a top-secret department of the Orwell surveillance program. Given the power to both uncover and fabricate “the truth”, how far will you go in the service of your country? Ignorance is Strength will be the second season of Orwell, a game that we reviewed back in late 2016 and you can read here.
The developers Osmotic Studios had a booth at Gamescome with publishers Surprise Attack and we had the pleasure of talking with Melanie Taylor, the artist behind the game. She told us that Ignorance is Strength takes place at the same time the first game did, parallel to the events we already saw unfold. This will be a new story that is supported by these events, adding more to the world building and the immersion. We found out that the player will have to go through a test in a secret area, similar to C.I.A. in order to begome an Investigator, in a storyline that has a darker tonality.
Ignorance is Strength is an evolution over the original told Melanie, with new game mechanics, like reusing info that you find while searching in a gameplay that is focused more on puzzles. There will also be a clock at the top of the screen that will be important for time based events. Every time a player moves information around some time will pass. At the beginning of the game they might not seem important, but as we move closer to the end of the game, the decisions of the player will have to be decisive.
We got to see a short gameplay of Orwell: Ignorance is Strength and all we can say is that we can’t wait. We can expect the end near the end of 2017.
