During Gamescom 2016, we had the chance to check out Frozenbyte’s booth at the Indie Arena where they showcased Nine Parchments. We had a chance to check out the game and talk with the developers as well for a couple things.
Nine Parchments is a co-operative blast’em up game of magic mayhem from Frozenbyte!
A group of drop-out wizard apprentices decide to skip their training for a quick path to the Nine Parchments.
As the wannabe wizards rapidly discover powerful new spells and ignore all safety aspects, it’s natural that their hasty progress results in lots of unwanted deaths…
It is basically magic mayhem from what we were told that plays in both single and multiplayer but shines mostly in the latter. With the ability to play online or offline with friends, the game already seems cool enough for us to try it out, since online multiplayers co-op or not are always great when it comes to indie games.
The players take control of drop-out wizards who never completed their studies. So now they are trying to find out the spells on their own by collecting the nine parchments.
We talked with Kai Tuovinen and he told us the studio is comprised of about 70 people at the moment and Frozenbyte is self-publishing. The game thus far has been 4 months in full production. Last year, the team was smaller when they started thinking about it. “The development has been pretty smooth so far.” The game will have a lot of content of course as well, as mentioned by Kai. What makes the game unique is the random generation of monsters but also the amount of variation in spells that there is.
There is a full release planned for the 2nd quarter of 2017 on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
