Keyboard Sports Gamescom 2017 Interview
Use every single key and fall in love with your least sexy controller. Keyboard Sports – Saving QWERTY is a humor-filled adventure with very little actual sports in it, but it’s filled with challenges that only ramp up once started. You play as the young apprentice to Master QWERTY, who sets you off on a visually and audibly stunning adventure to find your inner key — your entire keyboard is your controller! Keyboard Sports – Saving QWERTY is a significantly expanded version of Keyboard Sports which premiered in the Humble Monthly November 2016 bundle — this new game uses even more keys!
The game is developed by Triband and published by Humble Bundle.
During Gamescom 2017 we also found the game being showcased at the Indie Arena Booth and we had a chance to talk to one of the developers behind the game’s development. We specifically talked with Laura who is a 3D artist at the studio and she gave us some more light on the game.
The studio is based in Denmark, Copenhagen and is comprised of eight people. “It’s a coming of age adventure where the main character gets involved in an apprentice-mentor relationship,” explained Laura, telling us that the title is basically a homage to the keyboard. The game is all about placement and about using the entirety of the keyboard as a controller. “The original idea came from us wanting to utilize the entire keyboard in a game,” said Laura.
The game has been in development for a year now and the plans for releasing it show a date around the start of 2018.
“It is quite to funny to see how people react to how the game works because they need to unlearn everything they know about the keyboard,” said Laura. She also told us how it was quite interesting for the team, having to design a tutorial that would let the player explore the controls for the first time and fully understand what is going on. The company is presenting their game as part of the Humble Bundle indie games collective.
