During Gamescom 2016 we also had the chance to check out Farm For Your Life and speak with the developers behind it.
In Farm For Your Life your community was taken down by a heavy storm which caused an apocalypse and unleashed the living dead. Together with the other survivors, it is your task to rebuild and to make sure that sustainable life is still possible. Cultivate your farm and manage your restaurant to provide food and deal with all the zombies. It’s a strange Time Management Game. The light-hearted style of a casual game collides with elements which are usually only seen in horror genres. Discover the contrast, which takes both genres on a wild ride.
Oliver Eberlei told us that the game was developed by himself and his sister Annelle and that it was basically the first game that also started the studio Hammer Labs. It was supposed to take 4 months to develop but ended up taking 20 for Oliver and about 10 for Annelle. “We tried to make it casual,” said Oliver, continuing to explain to us about their inspirations from Harvest Moon amongst other things.
“It is basically a farming game with a twist. Harvest Moon by day and zombies attack at night,” explained Oliver. The game feels as if it is a mix of Harvest Moon and Plants Vs Zombies. It may have taken the developers 8 months to get through Greenlight but now they are on Steam and already selling.
