We found Soaphog studio at Gamescom 2016 and they were showcasing their newest game, Dungeons of Rezrog. We had the chance to speak with Imants Zarembo (game designer) and Valerijs Serkins (creative director) about it.
The game is a roguelike dungeon crawler with a tabletop aesthetic, as the developers explained it to us. The game is made by a 5man studio that is based in Latvia and it has been over a year in development.
The goal of the game is to create dynamic and engaging dungeon exploration experience for casual and hardcore players alike. The game’s art style mimics paper board game style, characters made of plastic and placed on plastic chips, while the environment is assembled from cardboard cutouts.
The game is planned to release sometime before the end of 2016. The developers told us that the biggest challenge of developing the game was to actually find a good team, gather enough experience (since most of the developers were new at game development) and last but not least getting everyone to know each other’s strengths and weaknesses in order to have good synergy while developing the game.
