This mystic world of endless skies, colorful islands and ancient ruins is in danger of falling into darkness. As one of the last few shapeshifters, you are sent on a pilgrimage to the Land of Gods. Uncover the secrets that will help save reality itself.
AER – Memories of Old is developed by Forgotten Key and published by Daedalic Entertainment.
We found Alexander Hukansson at the Indie Arena Booth where he was showcasing the game and we had a chat with him about the game and its development. Alexander told us that AER is best described as an atmospheric adventure game with its main premise being discovering and exploring the world found inside of the title. We control a priestess basically that is making a pilgrimage, something that a lot of priestesses have done before her.
Of course, just like anyone would have expected, something weird happened during the start of her pilgrimage and her mentor of course said “go on with it.” And so she did.
A lot of the things in the game, the player will be finding out on his/her own since the game will only give hints about stuff that you can find and do here and there. It is all about exploring and learning the world and its secrets on your own. The game can be both open-world and linear-narrative based on various parts of it. Every priestess makes a pact with a spirit animal of her choice and our character has of course made a pact with a bird, allowing her to transform into one and see the world from above.
So basically, there are different things to explore while in air and different ones while exploring a dungeon or anything like that. There are of course a lot of puzzles included in the game, but of course, the main goal will always be exploringthe game. “Our CEO loves Morrowing and the no object markers basically forces people to go down and start exploring things on ground level in order to achieve whatever they are going for,” explained Alexander.
This all started from a student project and it has been in development for four years now. The studio started out with six people and it later got another two before expanding even more so in the future. The game will release on the 25th of October on Steam.
However, Alexander also told us about the studio’s newer project which is currently called Down The Well. Alexander said that the studio is still in the design phase but despite that, shared some information about it with us. “It will be about a girl dropping in a magical well. There she finds a magical world that is very much influenced by her actions,” said Alexander, before explaining that the studio is basically at the point where they are deciding what those mechanics should be like.
